Q: What does a memoir cost?
A: Like any customised service the answer depends on your needs. We work out the specifications together and you’ll be given a proposal so you know the limits on cost. Clients pay half before work commences and half on acceptance of the draft.
We break our larger Totara packages into sections and charge section by section. This way each section is self-contained and ready for publishing giving you maximum certainty and control of your budget along the way.
We provide a flexible range of services to satisfy most budgets. It’s up to you how you configure our services.
Many families split the cost. Remember to consider how many people benefit and you'll see how cost-effective a memoir can be. And it's a gift that keeps on giving through the generations.
You can always make us an offer and we'll work out together what you get for that.
Q: How long does it take?
A: Our express service takes a month, but in general we prefer three months. If it's urgent, we'll do our best for you. Our Totara package clients sometimes want very large books so we give an indication once we understand the size of the job.
Q: It’s a great idea, but there’s no hurry is there?
A: People tend to want a memoir to express fondness, to mark a significant event or because their loved ones are aging or ill. But failing health can suddenly make a memoir an urgent priority. Time and again people tell us: “I really wish we’d done something like this before the funeral.”
Q: Can you produce a memoir of people who have passed away?
A: Yes. We have a range of research techniques that can not only ascertain the facts and events but also capture something of the spirit of the person.
Q: We’d love a memoir but there are black sheep in the family and skeletons in the closet.
A: Rest assured you are not alone. A great story can still be told without waking sleeping dogs. You set the limits. You see the draft and we can delete or tone down sensitive areas. You have control.
Q: Our elders think they’re too boring to write about.
A: Wrong. There's no such thing as a dull human! It's our skill to draw out good stories and to capture the character of our subjects.
Q: What if your client is frail - how do we know you'll treat them well?
A: Several of our staff are over 60. Some of us have first-hand experience of chronic conditions. We don't just sympathise, we empathise. And we have an excellent reputation to protect.
Q: What's your privacy policy?
A: Your book is seen only by our staff in the course of preparation. We do not reveal the names of our clients without express permission. Therefore, we are limited in telling you about our previous clients, especially with regards to "high profile" people.
Q: What about copyright?
A: We transfer copyright on final payment.
Q: What are your terms and conditons?
A: Clients have differing requirements, so our terms and conditions will be spelt out in our proposal to you.
Our question to you: is there a warmer, more durable, more cost-effective gift for your whole family and its descendants?
